Madeline gave birth to her children in a tepee made of buffalo hides,
near what is now Dunseith, ND. At that time there were only scattered
Indian lodges and buffalo were numerous. Madeline and her husband
participated in the buffalo hunts each fall, never having to go farther
than Rolla to get all they wanted.
